The NFT is a unique piece of digital art that is accessible via the use of a QR code. The project is limited and will be auctioned off in the coming weeks.

The Space Key is made of carbon composite materials that Lamborghini, in the course of a research project in 2019, sent to the International Space Station. After it returned to Earth, the carbon fiber was then sculpted into this unique artwork. The physical component is equipped with an NFT serial code that ties to the digital artwork through a QR code located on the back.

For those who don't aware, NFTs are unique identifiers recorded on a distributed blockchain ledger and tied to an digital asset such as a photo, video or music. This allows owners to ensure authenticity and traceability of tokens via the internet.

Working with NFT PRO, a white-label NFT solution for companies, Lamborghini is taking this unique approach to art to a new level. The physical element of Space Key

The digital artwork

After weeks of social media posts that hinted at it, luxury automobile maker Lamborghini finally revealed its first initiative for non-fungible tokens (NFT). It's dubbed the Space Key, it consists of five physical items that unlock an exclusive digital artwork NFT created by an artist yet to be identified. Developed in collaboration with NFT PRO(tm) the 'collector's piece' is limited to only five units and will be auctioned off in the near future.

It was sent to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of a research project. After returning to Earth the block was engraved with a QR codes that connect to the digital component in the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys features a different moment that occurs at different times as the Lamborghini Ultimae takes off towards the stars. More than 600 million pixels make each of the five images, which were taken by photographer Fabian Oefner.

Oefner used a balloon equipped with a camera, which took each of the individual images, which were then combined into the final image. The result is a truly out of this world photograph that captures both the beauty of Earth and the futuristic, hyper-realistic image of the car rising away from it. The Space Keys are going to be auctioned soon, but there's no precise date or location as of yet.

The auction

The five NFTs can be bought by signing up online. Each will be sold individually and the winner will be awarded an artwork digitally designed by renowned photographer Fabian Oefner, which captures the five distinct moments the Space Key passed during its flight through space.
